Fleet Auto Body: At Your Service!
by Eric Hoey

Billy Krapf is the owner and manager of Fleet Auto Body Service, at 169 Second Ave., between 13th and 14th streets.
At the garage, Krapf and his staff of five full-time mechanics deal with a very diverse customer base, which includes the general public, either on a walk-in basis or through Triple A referrals. The shop is an authorized AAA service center.
In addition, Krapf welcomes corporate accounts, and he also owns a number of government contracts.
"We work with a number of city and government agencies," he says.
For private customers, "It's one-stop shopping," says Krapf.
"We handle everything, including body work, engine work, and custom paint jobs."
Krapf brings 15 years of experience to Fleet, which has been at this location for four years.
Krapf is proud that Fleet is Brooklyn's only AAA-authorized body shop.
"We have a rapport with AAA and with our customers," he says of the American Automobile Association. "Our goal is to educate. When a person comes in, whether privately or through AAA, we try to give the customer a feel for the work that has to be done."
When dealing with all of his customers, Krapf makes sure to cover all areas of repair.
"We use a computerized system to make an estimate," he said. "We go through every repair option so that we can design an approach to fix the car and fit the pocket as well."
When designing an estimate, Krapf usually examines a worst-case scenario.
"That way, there are no hidden costs," he says. "We justify all prices and invite our customers to inspect the work before paying. We'll never hold a car hostage, and customers will not pay until the job is complete."
Krapf says he is aware of the expense involved with auto repair, and that's why he has many payment options for his customers.
"We help our customers deal with insurance companies, and we also suggest that people bring cars in need of repairs here, instead of to the dealer," Krapf said. "It's less costly that way and we pass the savings on to the customer."
Krapf adds a personal touch to his work.
"We send out thank you cards when a job is finished, and we offer free pickup and delivery," he says.
He also sends update cards, reminding customers "when it's safe to wax a newly-painted car. Following our work like that is important," said Krapf who added that "all of these extra services are part of our pleasant atmosphere. We don't want any of our customers to be anxious."
